Results and Possible Remediation Strategies

Possible Remediation Strategies

Based on results of site assessments, the City's approach to site remediation may include a combination of alternatives to achieve appropriate residential/ecological standards:

  • Soil: excavation; engineered cap/paving (temporary or permanent)
  • Soil gas: extraction/venting; vapor mitigation system
  • Phytoremediation
  • Groundwater: extraction/in-situ treatment in targeted areas

A Human Health Risk Assessment (HHRA) will need to be performed to analyze the effectiveness of the remediation approach and the uses for the site, and be approved by the DTSC. To do this, the City will need to first select a design for the site, then strategically and safely clean up the site based on that design, the site uses, and the selected remediation strategies.
